Casa Blanca
Just up in the hills outside Bucaramanga is a coffee plantation called Casa Blanca. One morning, we visited for a three-hour tour and coffee tasting. The more popular option for coffee tours in the area is Café Mesa de Los Santos. I haven’t been there myself, but it’s a larger and more well-known plantation, so I imagine it offers a more polished and commercial experience. Casa Blanca, on the other hand, felt a little more rustic and adventurous, which I personally really enjoyed.
When we arrived, we were greeted by our guide and four very friendly dogs. One especially cute and chubby dog decided to accompany us for the entire tour around the plantation. Our guide shared the history of the hacienda, introduced us to Colombian coffee culture, and showed us the machinery and processing methods used to produce the coffee.
We then began a walk through the plantation itself. Along the way, we saw the coffee bushes, tasted the pulp from different coffee varieties, and eventually reached a waterfall where visitors can even take a shower if they want. After the walk, we headed up to the restaurant area for a tasting of three of their coffees, along with an infusion made from coffee bean husks, anise, cinnamon, and other spices.
Overall, it was a really enjoyable experience and one I’d definitely recommend. They also have a restaurant on-site that we didn’t get a chance to try, but I’ve heard from others that it’s an excellent spot for brunch.
